BCBR 2009 Rocked...

It's pretty amazing to think that the almost 400 racers of BCBR 2009 wrapped up their adventure a little more than 4 weeks ago! The weather gods were smiling upon us yet again, the trails were pristine, and the general consensus was that the seven days of BC Bike Race really do add up to The Ultimate Singletrack Experience! What an amazing year!!

2009 Shimano Wheelset Winners

At the Day 7 awards ceremony, two BCBR particpants were awarded brand new wheelsets by Shimano, one of our great new sponsors on board for 2009.

The award was for most sportsmanlike conduct: Solo Racer Derek Steven, from West Vancouver, BC, stopped when he came upon a fellow racer suffering from a major medical emergency on Day Four. Derek stayed with the injured racer for over an hour to call in help and then to assist the medical team with the extraction. This was Derek's first stage race and, for his inexperience, he was proving to be fairly competitive. Derek set all of that aside, potentially sacrificing his ranking and time, to help the medical team and the injured racer.

Derek was nominated for the award by another racer to whom Shimano decided to give a set of wheels as well, for her thoughtfulness in nominating someone for the award. Congratulations!

BCBR Supports Downieville Classic

If you've never been, it's a helluva weekend: a cross country race, a downhill race and a mountain bike festival rolled into one! With 15 years unders its belt, the Downieville Classic is the best, most established all mountain event in North America.

And, to show our support for such a great event, we gave one BCBR 2010 comp entry each to the winning male and female racers, Adam Craig and Katerina Nash. Congrats on your win and looking forward to seeing you in Vancouver in 2010!!
