Days 4 and 5: The Sunshine Coast, from Earls Cove to Langdale - June 30 / July 1, 2010

Chef's Selections

Over-easy - Rating: Blue  Square  Length: 1km

This Sunshine Coast singletrack trail is in the middle of a new network that’s just been finished. It travels through some new and old stands of trees and a couple of year old clearcuts but the view is stunning as it overlooks far-off mountains and forests below. Features: Top – rolls along 100 year old logging road. Middle – rolls through the forest and new singletrack. Bottom – comes out onto a section worth stopping to catch your breath and admire the view.

Rock’a’Billy - Rating: Black Diamond  Length: 1.5km

This long-standing west Sechelt trail is one of the harder ones in the area. It begins by gaining a lot of ground in a short time, flattens out near the top and progresses to short technical rocky climbs where your balance is needed to keep traction and forward momentum. As the trail crests the hill you descend into tight singletrack...watch your bars on the trees! Features: Start – steep uphill but very rideable. Middle – some steep up and down sections over rocky outcroppings. End - flows down the other side of the ridge.

ParBac - Rating: Blue Square Plus   Length:  1.5km

This Sunshine coast favourite has also been here for a while and time has made slight changes, though in a good way. This flowy trail keeps you moving with its elevation changes and rooty sections. The bridges that demand your focus and some areas require perfect balance to navigate the rocks and trees. Features: Start to end - flowy and tight with some bridges, but all is rideable.

HWY 102 - Rating: Blue Square Plus   Length: 7km

The fastest and smoothest of the Sunshine Coast Trails, this trail is guaranteed to put a smile on your face! Hwy 102 connects two major areas--Roberts Creek and Gibsons-- and has become one of the most fun descents with over 1500ft over the last 10km at the end of day 5! As it flows down the mountainside this trail crosses many bridges and is rich with history. Features: Top - flowy and fast with wide and rideable bridges at all creek crossings. Middle – one spot where you will carry your bike down some stairs. Bottom – down into Sprockids park (the birthplace of the now world-wide school kids riding program).

Day 6: Squamish - July 2, 2010

Chef's Selections

The Powerhouse Plunge - Rating: Challenging Black Diamond  Length: 35-45 minutes of pure West Coast singletrack.

Downhill singletrack plummeting through old-growth forests, challenging switchbacks, wooden log rides, tasty built up planked balance testers. Rated as one of the top trails in the world and a ride everyone should experience before they die!! This classic demands your full focus and a complete set of technical skills.

Pseudo Tsuga 1, 2, 3, 4 - Rating: Blue Square to Black Diamond (small bits)  Length: 4-5km

Its pure flowing fun on this mid-ring downhill singletrack. It will make you feel like a rockstar. But watch out for the sting in the tail, as the last 100 meters of section 4 downhill is super challenging - get your weight back and hold on tight.

The Track from Heck - Rating: Blue Square  Length: 1km

A narrow-gauge railway bed right at the beginning of our course. In wet conditions this section has to be very skillfully negotiated. To make this section even cooler, our local trail building Gods put in a long two foot wide plank section over a swamp complete with skunk cabbage. Dabbing is not recommended at any time of the year.
