Welcome to
BRITISH COLUMBIA
British Columbia (commonly abbreviated as BC) is the westernmost province of Canada. Situated between the Pacific Ocean and the Rocky Mountains, the province has a diverse geography, with rugged landscapes that include rocky coastlines, sandy beaches, forests, lakes, mountains, inland deserts and grassy plains.
With an estimated population of over 5.5 million as of 2023, it is Canada’s third-most populous province. British Columbia’s capital is Victoria, located at the southeastern tip of Vancouver Island. The largest city is Vancouver, which makes up the third-largest metropolitan area in Canada.
Indigenous Peoples of BC have inhabited the landscape for an estimated 10,000 years. Prior to the arrival of the first Europeans in the late 18th century, hundreds of First Nations communities thrived in all areas of what is now British Columbia, each with its own language, culture, and traditions.
