Dana Heyman, Kamloops BC
Dana Heyman is a inspirational member of the Kamloops Mountain bike community in so many ways it’s hard to know where to begin.
Her contributions are endless over the past many seasons through advocacy and action in Kamloops and the region. Dana was a board member of the Kamloops Bicycle Riders Association in 2015 and has been on the board for the Kamloops Performance Cycling Centre (KPCC) for over 5 years. She has been treasurer, secretary and written several successful grant applications to further trail networks in the Kamloops Bike Ranch, Harper Mountain and Pineview trail networks. Her work doesn’t just end with tireless back end taks but she is also the first one to organize and participate in trail days, events and group rides.
She is perhaps best known for her Dirt Chix women’s riding group which has over 150 riders last season and often brings out over 80 riders per week. Dana organizes these ladies with precision skill and leads large ride groups with ease. Her positivity and encouragement has advanced so many new female riders into the sport and built an amazing community. All the funds raised from all the Dirt Chix activities are donated directly back into the trail organization to further trail development.
She is also one of the founding members of the local fat bike group the Fat Fockers who have also legitimized a whole trail network at Isobel Lake which is maintained for fat bikes to enjoy. Dana has been invaluable in securing most areas and advocating for bikes.
Dana is one to the most giving and lovely people you could ever run into on a trail. She’ll show you the trail, draw you a map and give you a beer at the bottom.
