I would like to nominate a very hardworking individual by the name of Dana Wacker for the Kazlaw Community Award.
Dana is a bit unusual in that she does absolutely everything she can to help, anyone in the mountain bike community here in Nanaimo, BC. A rarity in this day-and-age of “me first”. As a member of the Nanaimo Mountain Bike Club executive committee, she is both the Communication Director and the Website Director. She also serves unofficially as the Membership Director. Additionally, she served on the Tourism Nanaimo mountain bike steering committee that has successfully garnered tourism dollars to build, maintain and promote a legal and very cool pump-track trail called “Fine China”. Amongst other projects promoting mountain biking in Nanaimo.
As a rider she can be found on multiple group rides every week; hanging with the Advanced group, leading the Women’s only (all levels) ride, even lending a hand at trail maintenance days.
Dana is an ambassador, a mentor, a volunteer, a role model, one of the nicest people I know and a crazy fast rider (women’s overall winner, Island Cup Enduro series 2018).
