I’d like to nominate Brent Strand on behalf of the Revelstoke Cycling Association.
Brent is a pillar of the Revelstoke cycling community. He’s been running our weekly Pedal n’ Pint rides every Thursday night for the last 12 years. Revelstoke’s mountain bikers look forward to Pedal ‘n’ Pint each week, and its success can be credited directly to Brent. He has been running it as a one-man show. It is amazing to see Brent in action – he is always energetic, enthusiastic, and welcoming to new riders. He constantly counts group members and ensures that everyone has a fun and safe ride. He devises a different ride every week and leads the charge of a bunch of exhausted riders back to the pub for post-ride beers. It’s a hard job and one that he does purely out of passion for the sport.
For about the last five years, Brent has also been a central organizer of BikeFest Revelstoke, a grassroots mountain biking festival that includes group rides, a scavenger hunt, and whatever activities Brent devises.
Brent is a present, recognizable member of our community. Whether he’s decked out in retro ski gear, on his bike, or promoting avalanche awareness, Brent’s presence is always appreciated – and never goes unnoticed; Brent’s booming voice is as much a part of the Revelstoke cycling scene as our famous Frisby Ridge trail.
Brent is someone who we can always count on to spread biking stoke. He recognizes that community is a big part of mountain biking – that the trails are a great place to forge new friendships. He is a passionate advocate for mountain biking and deserving of the KazLaw Community Mountain Biking Award. We are lucky to have Brent in our community, and could never thank him enough for his efforts.
